Digital Convergence

Audiences are increasingly consuming content across different media, which has prompted UK broadcasters to increase commissioning budgets for cross-media content.

Independent TV production companies and new media companies have a financial incentive to collaborate on cross-platform ideas, but different business models in the two sectors mean there are currently no legal frameworks by which they can work together.

We're working with Pact to change this. We're developing a series of legal templates to enable independent TV production companies and new media companies to work together to win new, cross-platform commissions - and jointly exploit the intellectual property created. Pact is also running a collaborative wiki to allow draft documents to be reviewed and amended by participants as they are produced.

Template package now available

We've recently released a range of templates, which are freely available from the Pact website. The template package includes a:

  • guide to collaborating;
  • collaboration agreement;
  • convergent agreement; and a
  • joint venture checklist.
