Advanced Transport Systems Ltd has been developing a prototype of the Urban Light Transport System (ULTra), which drives itself and avoids traffic jams, and has recently completed successful passenger trials at their test track in Cardiff. This marks the first step in a radical new direction in the development of a personal and environmentally friendly public transport.

ATS received an initial £75,000 NESTA Invention and Innovation award in-05-2000, to develop the idea through undertaking essential market and business development work. The additional funding will go towards the business development of the project, bringing in the necessary expertise to promote this groundbreaking technology to various worldwide markets.

Once introduced, the futuristic system will transport up to four people at a time to their destination non-stop at a speed of 25 mph, on a dedicated guideway.
