Hidden innovation
Innovation policy in the UK has tended to use a very narrow definition of innovation, which in turn focuses on specific industries and sectors of the economy, such as aerospace or pharmaceuticals. As a result, there is an increasing sense that a gap exists between what research is telling us about innovation, and the policy designed to support it.
That is not to say the problem lies entirely with policymakers. We believe there is a great deal of research that has not been translated or communicated effectively for policymakers about how innovation policy could be developed.
