Our work on interdisciplinary collaboration is investigating how interactions between different knowledge communities within the UK generate new knowledge and original ideas.
We are particularly interested in work that explores:
- the institutional barriers that need to be addressed to allow collaborative space to be created and developed.
- the cultural barriers that need to be overcome for interdisciplinary research to flourish.
Universities United
Universities United will test an interdisciplinary approach to innovation within the universities sector, with a particular focus on innovations for social impact.

Crucible offers 30 early-stage career researchers an opportunity to develop new collaborations across disciplines.
Carbon Crucible
Carbon Crucible encourages interdisciplinary collaborations between early- to mid-career researchers to spark innovative solutions to tackle the big issues in energy research.
