Science for Humanity
Science for Humanity aims to engage UK scientists to help provide sustainable solutions to the problems that people face in developing countries. It will focus on poor people in countries where help is needed the most - and where science can have the most impact.
It is being founded on the belief that while our society is making incredible progress in the fields of science and technology, more of this knowledge could be translated into genuine innovation that could make a difference to the lives and livelihoods of billions of people.
Encouraging collaboration
By creating these groups and facilitating communication, Science for Humanity will encourage input across all relevant disciplines. The organisation will create a model of collaborative interdisciplinary working to stimulate innovation. The organisation will also look at how to effectively exchange knowledge across sectors, from NGOs to scientists and technologist and vice-versa.
How it works
Science for Humanity will act as a facilitator; working with scientists, development agencies, local communities and funding organisations to identify developing – world problems and potential solutions. It will then bring together the people and funds necessary to turn those solutions into real world applications, which bring tangible benefit to people in the developing world.
